    Plaza Midwood is a neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina located in just East of Uptown Charlotte. The neighborhood spans from Hawthorne on the west to the Charlotte Country Club on the east and the Plaza in the north to Central Avenue in the south. Plaza-Midwood is known for its art galleries, unique eateries and one of a kind shopping options. Because of its diversity in people, businesses and homes it is known as one of the most diverse of Charlotte’s many neighborhoods.

    Like the Dilworth community, Plaza Midwood is another of Charlotte’s original streetcar suburbs, which means it was designed so that all homes were within walking distance of street car lines. The neighborhood was established in 1910 and the Oakland Land Company designed the layout of roads for the neighborhood. In 1950 the neighborhood declined a bit but by 1975 the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association was formed to insure the preservation of the neighborhood. The neighborhood has experienced a rejuvenation and rebuilding process since the 1990s which has encouraged the neighborhoods eclectic flavor, older bungalows are being converted to unique and funky renovated dwellings. Plaza Midwood also has a historic district in the western part of the neighborhood where old business buildings and homes are maintained and preserved to keep the history of the neighborhood alive.
